Tudor toile doublet
After studying historical jerkins decided to create my own in a rough wool material. My overall size will be dictated by the size of the oven for heating up the media the scanner and laser cutter. Making sure I don t make the seems match but layer them on top of each other instead as I will be using a solid media.
Hand embellished with digital technology
Creating stitching sticks to gauge which size hole to drill or laser cut, finding an optimum size in ratio to thread before continuing with the correct size to cut all over the pattern pieces. Trying different size acrylic and colours, etching and cutting.
Cutting and dyed acrylics
Had great time experimenting with the laser cutter to produce interesting shapes to be dyed and foiled. Developed a recipe that would give a delicate degree of colour to the pieces. The cuts enhanced the light reflection, so the intensity of the colours comes through. Trying to find a fine line between the size and shape of the pieces before they snap and break when heated to be moulded.
Glorious gilding
Nylon foil can be very unpredictable , it’s coverage can be complete or patchy, depending on the use of glue. Through experimentation I have created a way to suggest a feel of a fabric texture without being over bling! Also I Sampled the foil over a laser cut piece of work which gave a sprayed metallic look to the surface. Will continue to sample with different times under the heat press, levels and a selection of foils.
