Giant Art Deco Spirals

Chrysler Building research, Continue to look at the 1930’s era and the fantastic architecture buildings achieved in this time of depression. The Chrysler building is truly spectacular to view with many changing colours depending on the time of the day. Art Deco superb opulence everywhere. Radium was just hitting the public; metallic Egyptian theme seem to be everywhere. It’s an era we all romanticize about with glitz and dazzle. Sampling metallic threads on the CAD on PVC to give a glass shiny feel. Researching in London I checked out the shops  to see which type of PVC are for sale covering all ends of the market. I found one clear piece of PVC with a black stitch thorough it. So, I feel confident testing my coloured and dye pvc with stitch as I feel I could be something new on the market. Umbrellas, bags, coats

Sampled one without any success, its metallic colours are now very bland when lite with out lighting and the cad design does not sit flat to create a finished piece within the lampshade lining

Handed painted and foiled acrylic

Using disperse dye and dipping each piece in for 3 -4 minutes depending on thickness 2mm or 4mm. As lifting the pieces out keep as much dye as possible to paint over with a brush. Foiled pieces require the same amount of time dying to ensure edges will take.

After testing out the fret saw and cutting the acrylic, reflected on how it needs to be precise cuts and the pillar drill can sometime break the brittle acrylic when pulling the drill out. Theses pieces have been laser cut including the hole ready for the screws
