“Industrial nature” by Michelle Stitzlein

Absolutely awesome, what artistic imagination, it looks like a spectucular exhibition and no land fill! Made from garden hose, computer parts, wires, fixtures and metal and plastics. This is just the direction I want my practice to follow, I really like working with materials that have connotations of a previous life.

Modular Mapping

Artwork after researching DNA codes and seed pods to combine together to produce a print. Referencing the start of all “life” seeds and the technology of genome sequencing. Colours for spring/summer 2018 although want to bring some metallics!

Using Devore paste and screens I created marks, codes and patterns from my DNA research. Producing a delicate fabric in silver and steel indigo. I added foiled canvas for texture and to represent the unique genetic sequencing. Going to explore completely foiled canvas with small sections of materials.

Laser Cutting Acrylic

Following research at a Complex needs school I am currently sampling a sensory wall for the soft play area. After speaking with staff I am designing smooth acrylic cogs to give a repetitive action to full engage the children. keeping a simple colour palette so its not overloading sensory issues. sampling different types of nuts and bolts and washers to give a easy action to the “hubs”. Trying to creative different hubs for variation as each children likes to interact in a different way. I want to make them portable so to fit onto the magnetic wipe board or packed away and move to another room. If a child is having a different day they can be brought in to diffuse a situation, the hubs will stand alone onto the floor space.

Used ice in the mould before using the resin, to work out how much resin to mix up and  use. Adding beads etc to add interest with a small stick, making sure there was not any air pockets.

Mood Board to source materials

While the resin was drying added beads to give a tactile sense to the magnetic button. The background of the copper hub is just as important to give a visual language referencing conducting electric.

Nine Hubs finished, decided not to use ice cube Hub as children might put it into their mouths and it would require cleaning

Indigo day

After sampling different types of materials for indigo dying I found Aida worked the best for my practice. Giving a textured feel and fraying easily, taking stitch well. Adding rust gave more of a orange colour , still prefer the blue and white markingsimg_5344

POWER TEX Media, used some of the items I use to draw for a repeat pattern arranged with cloth then used Power Tex to create a sculpture piece

Before and after, when media is not quite dry brush with gold powder
